Hi,

When I watch cop shows, third watch, csi... when they enter a room with a disgusting smell, dead body for instance, they take something out and rub it under their nostrils.

Just wondering what it is.

Thanks

We have vanilla strips that we puchace from Striechers.com. They stick to your upper lip and you smell strong vanilla scenets for most of the day. Not the nice vanilla candle smell, STRONG vanilla.

I put Vicks into my nostrils during a police academy excursion to the Coroner's Office to watch 3 autopsies. At one point during the first autopsy, after the doctor had emptied the contents of the stomach into a beaker, he thrust the beaker under my nose and asked, "What do you smell?" I said "Vicks Vapo-Rub." Everyone in the class laughed except for the doctor.

Calling the city for inspections and the well being branch will be a good commence. Police were noted as about the odors from Jeffrey Dahmer and Anthony Sowell's (both serial killers and had bodies of their apartments), and the police did no longer something about it.

TV shows the cops using vicks. However, the intent of vicks is to open the nostrils, so why would you use it???

Use vanilla extract, it doesn't open the nasal passages, but still masks the smell.

usually vicks vapor rub. The smell is so powerful, it helps cover up a stinker. Cigars work well also. So does burning coffee grinds. Vicks is low key and inconspicuous though...

I use Vicks. The sharp odor numbs the sense of smell for awhile.

Absolutely, positively Vicks Vaporub. With 11 years of police experience, four as a detective, I can vouch from many death investigations that Vicks does the job!

Vaseline, vicks vapor rub, or something similiar. Police, etc. will breathe through their mouth and if do happen to breathe through their nose, they will smell the disguising odor rather than the rancid odor.

I had a friend who worked at the coroner's office and in those days they used Noxema facial cleanser. I don't even know if it's still made.
