I have read the term in some of my literature on pregnancy, and from what I understand it is basically an abortion when you find out unfavorable results from a CVS or amnio. Can someone explain to me what it is and if it is any different?

D&C is actually a procedure that is done after someone miscarries or in some cases of heavy or irregular menstral periords. It's called Dilation and curettage. Because they will dilate your cervix and then scrape the lining of the uterus. This is done to remove any extra tissue remaining that may cause an infection. When I had mine they put me to sleep, when I woke up it just felt like cramps.

Dilatation and curettage. It is used in some miscarriages if the tissue is not completely expelled. It can also be done to take an endometrial biopsy. Also, it is sometimes done to women who have abnormally heavy unexplained bleeding.
