Yes, it will hurt, What they'll probably do is put in some tiny sewing type like needles (1-3 times) that don't hurt. Their for numbing it. Then they inject the big needle which isn't thick, but very long and skinny. They stick that in there and inject the stuff and it will hurt badly.
They'll tell you it won't and that they'll numb it, but any needle into the space is painful.
Sorry for the rude awakening, only meant to be an honest answer

The needle is just a plain needle, only a little longer. The actual injection can hurt a bit, but it is over fast. I used to get Cortizone knee injections all the time when I was younger. Your knee may be sore for a few hours/half a day, then it will feel a lot better. Different people have different tolerances for pain. I never had a lot of soreness right after getting this type of injection; however one time my Mom had one, and she asked me what I meant by "it didn't hurt" because she was in pain for two days.
I call getting a cortizone shot "getting my joints oiled"

I am suffering from an injured knee right now. Yes, it hurts to get a cortisone shot. But, my doctor puts xylocane in the syringe before the cortisone and it numbs the area before the cortisone hits. No - the needle is NOT AS FAT AS A PENCIL. That's stupid. It might feel like it without the anesthetic, but the injection is made with a regular sized syringe. My advice is get the shot if you need it. Cortisone reduces inflammation and speeds healing.

No the needle is not fat as a pencil and it is uncomfortable for a little while but if it works, it's worth it. I've had many Cortisone shots in my knee, shoulder and neck. The ones in my neck they had to put me out but the others they didn't. The problem was, it got to where Cortisone didn't help anymore.

I have had 3 of these in my neck. 2 from the side and 1 from the center.
The needle isnt that big. yes there is some discomfort.
Generally how it works is they will first inject a local anesthetic.
Then if needed a dye to make sure they are injecting the cortezone into the correct spot.
Then the cortezone itself.
For me the dye is what bothered me. I had ( have ) a herniated c6-c7 disc in my neck and they had to slide that needel along the vertebra bone until it slide into the spinal canal.
made me nervous.
The first time I had it they gave me a valium though. after that nothing.
Dont worry you will be fine.

The needle is not that big. I have them done into my hip. It hurts for a shot peroid, of time. It does help make a difference in my pain levels and my range of motion. Ask your doctor if he can prescribe Valium for you to take before your shot. Good luck.

i've had a cortizone shot and they are not fun but the needle is not that big and trust me it is well worth the little bit of stinging you feel. don't worry about it you may not like the actual shot but the results will be great!!!!!

Not as much as the pain your hip is constantly under. Why didn't you ask the Doctor that question. Anyway, not much more than any injection. They don't insert the needle into your bone.

all shots hurt...if you don't like shots ask for pills...they take longer to work, but have the same effect.
