I just recently cleared out my bookshelf of old and unwanted books, and I'm struggling to figure out what to do with them. I have about 25-30 unwanted books just stuffed in a bag, and I was wondering if I could recycle them. These are real, hardcover/paperback books, not magazines or newspapers. I'm pretty sure the local library isn't interested in taking them due to their condition; plus they only have a tiny box to put the books into. How does one go about recycling them? Do recycling centers accept them?

Give them to Goodwill, the Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, or other resale charity.

Hi, if you don't think you can donate the books, they are certainly recyclable in a mixed paper recycling program. You can place the paperback books directly into the reycling bin/receptacle (or your own curbside fiber bin). The hardcovers can be recycled AFTER taking off the hard part of the book. You can throw the cover into the trash and the rest of the book "innards" into the recycling container.

Hope this helps!

There are recycling units for the purpose of recycling the books and papers.
