Buttercream frosting. I could just eat this without the cake.

BUTTERCREAM FROSTING
1/4 c. butter, softened
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla extract
3 c. sifted confectioners' sugar (powered sugar)
1/4 c. milk

Cream butter, salt, vanilla and 1 cup confectioners' sugar in mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Add remaining confectioners' sugar alternately with milk, mixing well after each addition. Beat until smooth and creamy. Adjust confectioners' sugar and milk if necessary for desired consistency.
Let your cake cool completely before frosting.
Hope this helps..

royal icing
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup shortening
2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon clear imitation vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, combine sugar, shortening, water and vanilla. Beat on low speed to combine, then beat on medium speed for a full five minutes. It won't look like Icing at first, but keep the mixer going for a full five minutes, and then you're done!
icing will be a little stiff so you can use warm water to help it spread smoothly over the cake....when icing a cake it is better to let it cool to room temp and possibly sticking it in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes...this makes it to where the cake does not crumble...this icing is very sweet and popular with the kids....it makes great flowers and roses because it holds very well....good luck

7 minute frosting is my favorite but sorry to say I don't know how to make it! It's a white creamy frosting with a crispy kind of crust and its amazing! Oh I do know if you make homemade icing use real butter not magarine or butter substitute, those are mostly made of oil and will not hold the frosting together! (salted or unsalted either is ok)

my favorite is real whipped cream, especially on chocolate cake. you whip heavy cream, a teaspoon of vanilla extract and confectioners sugar to taste, until light and fluffy. will frost a cake just like any other frosting. deliciously different.
