I have two female cats, I give them about 2 cups of purina cat food and they are always eating it. When I gave them Eukanuba they would eat it , but it lasted longer. Is there something in one food that makes them fuller or do they just simply like one better than the other?

Just give your cats the recommended calories. Cats like what they like. Purina has been in business since 1893. Don't assume Eukanuba is better because its more expensive. They are part of the Iams Corp. If your cats love Purina, let them eat it.

Pet food is the left over stuff of human food. Regardless of the brand name.

You might as well cook a dinner for yourself and make it a dinner for 3. You'd come out better financially than buying "high science" pet food.

Give them a routine though. Don't leave food out for them all the time. I give my cat dry in the morning, wet at night.

She loves fancy feasts. (-:

Good luck

The Eukanuba Natural does have some wholesome chicken in it and it does contain soybean which is contraindicated for cats (do you really want to know about phyto-estrogens, trypsin inhibitors etc. - if you do email me). Along with the Purina 2/3 of the food is filler and for a cat the protein ratio should be 60% high quality meat protein and only 30% filler and more wholesome ones than corn gluten meal or brewer's rice.

Some better foods in the dry are Eagle Pack, Natural Balance, Solid Gold, Chicken Soup, Felidae, CA Natural etc. All these have high quality meat protein as the first two ingredients and the fillers are brown rice, millet, oat or pea.

With a higher meat protein content in their food they will be better nourished and after a time making up for deficiencies from the other foods will actually eat less of the new food.

It's probably a combination of two things...

1 - Eukanuba had more nutrients in it per serving, so they needed to eat less in order to get all of the nutrients they need in a day.

2 - Purina is like junk food in comparison to Eukanuba. They probably like the taste more.

The best thing to do would be to go back to the Eukanuba or another quality brand. In general, you should leave dry food out for cats 24 hours a day. Cats tend to eat only what they need, and they won't overeat. No need to measure out 2 cups a day!

Always try to feed your cat a product that has meat as the first ingredient. Lots of foods put corn and such first but they need the protein and just like humans, protein keeps them full longer.

I think they just like one better then the other. They are like humans in that when they like some food they eat more of it.

i have cats as well, and i believe that just like humans, cats have their likes and dislikes when it comes to food!!! they have done that to me.we changed the food brand and they suddently stoped eating, so just get them the food they like.hmm have u spayed them recently?that might be another reason why they are eating soo much.

The more expensive food has less fillers, and is better quality. Your pet will eat less and poop less. More of what they eat gets utilized. The cheaper food has more fillers and junk, which digests fast, and goes through them fast. Much less nutritious! Much more waste.

It depends on the food. It's more likely that one of them they like more and is more satisfying.
