You need to eat at least 1,200 a day (NOT 1000). You need to eat more if you are exercising regularly, and if you weigh more, you need more. It's not an easy question to answer. If you want to lose weight, you'll be eating less. If you want to maintain, that would be a little more, and if you want to gain - a little more than that.

15 calories per pound per day is the rule of thumb. For example, if you weight 120 pounds then 120 X 15 = 1800 calories.

I used to take in 2500 calories a day just to maintain 165lbs. Just recently I noticed that time was catching up to me and now I can maintain 175 - 180 at about 2000 calories a day.

depends if you are male or female, females slightly less, 1000 a day and you will loose weight. Be careful though - how old are you? How active are you? Go to clinic and find out what you need
