Are you talking about the uncle wha was a sailor? Had a bad leg?

He was the only "norm" to discover the truth about the lead's telepathic ability, and protected him.

When one of the telepaths married a norm, she told him of her abilities, and he was going to blackmail the group. The uncle realised this, and shot him through the neck with an arrow.
