Are you asking what that means? A "cold call" is one where you have not been contacted by the prospective customer, but you are calling, whether by phone or in person, without an appointment or invitation. In some fields of selling, that's the only kind you are going to make any money on, so you have to learn how to do it.

The cold call is what you need to expand your customer base. And if your product is one that people don't buy very often (the extreme is insurance, I suppose), then you must always be expanding your customer base. Customer loyalty is important, but in some areas new customers are where you need to focus your energy.

So imagine what it takes to persuade people just to listen to you, let alone buy something from you. Most of us simply hang up, or close the door as the case may be, as soon as we know you are selling something. Your persuasion must work in the first few seconds.

That's a cold call. It's the difference between a real sales person and a person who has a job in sales because they couldn't get anything else and needed a job.
