My mom met her husband online, but I don't know of many relationships that really worked out other than that. Internet dating works because people get to know one another as people before the physical. People are less inhibited online and are more likely to find people with similar beliefs and to move on faster if they don't. While my husband was deployed out relationship was over the computer for a year and a half and it really did better our relationship. When you are forced to talk instead of cuddle or watch a movie you find out things about each other you never knew.

Having an Internet boy/girlfriend might be more of an escape than anything else. In the flesh people don't always have the confidence they have when someone on line can't see them. Off the Internet one may not truly appreciate their own appearance where on line they can look like super models and the "better half" need not be the wiser to what they look like. Also, on the Internet you don't have to be who you are everyday, you can create a fictional being who you might fantasize about being. Once again, the person on the other end of the connection would for sometime, maybe forever, know it's not who the person really is.

There are two sides to every coin.
First the positive side..There are instances where people have developed friendships that later developed into something deeper.I know a couple personally that eventually married and have a beautiful son.
.I have a friend who lives in NY .We talk a lot about numerous things although the conversation is purely platonic. Our friendship supplements our lives ; not keeping us from living our own.
Some people find it easier to chat via the internet because they are very shy .Chatting over the internet always people the added bonus of reallly getting to know someone's ideas and personality instead of basing it solely on outward appearances.
Not everyone lies but some do..If he/she can't "prove" they care they probably don't!
Downside: There are "players" out on the internet who are looking for a "cheap" thrill " at the expense of others. To them its basically a game...or they are out for financial gain.

Be Aware: IF you can feel him /her and touch them its "real".If not, there is the possiblity that they are either players or conmen

. ALL people you meet on the internet are NOT MONSTERS ;some of us are for real.Just in everyday life there are some people who touch your heart and those who will break it.Just realize that life is a risk.Be careful !

There are many relationships of those overseas" those serving our country in the military. Those in service leave for months-years..and communication via internet, by phone or mail. My family is in England many to which I have never met..communication of internet and phone....My fiancee I met over the internet 7 yrs..sent him well over 2,000 to start a webhosting company (atlaspronet) which we share , he will be here happily by April from Turkey to USA! I know not to bother him, but I do call him at work since his mom does not speak English. Theres not much diffrence in all these examples...Love in any relationship is what you make of it And im not saying it went without disloyality. But this can happen in any relationship. Is it dumb? No Im so happy hes comming that Ive redone the house!! I have sold my car for him, and bought one to get us by on. Im never disloyal, and always online when he needs me. If Im at work I make sure I take the time to call. The only thing i feel dumb is how expensive it is calling Turkey from here and my phone bill is awful! He is the most beautiful person I know, my friend, my love, my husband, my future and my end.

While it's true that there are a lot of phonies on the internet, I personally met my girlfriend online (neither of us was actually looking). The difference is that we followed up our internet contact and met in person after a period of corresponding and phoning. So basically I would say that if you haven't actually met the other person what you have is not really a relationship but a "penpal" so to speak. And as far as being dumb, each situation is unique and I do not think it's appropriate to dismiss all such encounters out of hand.

It works for some people. Unfortunately I'm not one of those people. I had a year long online relationship. Well it evolved into phone calls. But after a year she met a guy that lived near her.

I'm against it.

Why? Because communication is 90% physical.
When communicating with someone online, you're only getting 10% of the deal.

The real world is much better.

It is extremely dangerous and dumb! It just isn't like the real thing... I get the hint that one of your friends or a guy your intrested in is involved in this. Don't worry it won't last...trust me!
