No. There won't be a draft. The volunteer Army can still recruit enough for any foreseeable emergency.
And if you chose not to go (despite Al's suggestions) it is not cowardice to chose alternatives.
Takes guts to leave your home, or face criminal prosecution, or both.
Besides if there is a war big enough to require a draft going to Canada will probably just get you drafted by the Canadian Army (smile)

The military does not want a draft. That would mean taking in a lot of people that don't want to be there. We are not in the kind of situation that would warrant it anyway. We need about 100,000 more troops, but the cost is so high that we can't even afford those as volunteers. Who is spreading this rumor? Is it the Comedy Central News or just the Neo-Libs?
As for whether people would go, if your country REALLY needed you, would you go? I would hope so. I have, it's no big deal and it would probably make you a better person - you would be forced to live and get along with a diverse group of people (and you would probably like a fair number of people from other ethnic/racial groups as trusted friends). It's not all bad, but it is not going to happen in the near future.

No i do not see the draft being reinstated an as for going if it were it depends If we are fighting another 'Nam or Iraq type of thing Then my answer would Be Hell no I won't go and before you mudslingers start while the name calling just so you know I Am A U.S. Army Vet. I have no problem with fighting a war to defend our country . But we were not doing this in ' Nam and certainly are not in Iraq either No matter how much that lying piece of crap Bush claims otherwise

Yes, I think that the draft will be reinstated very soon, and no, I can't go, I am 58 years old, way past the age limit for the draft.

Their is a democrat congressman trying to reinstate the draft. I doubt that this will be signed into law because most people on the hill do not want it.
If there is a draft, I am too old to be drafted.

If our country needs a draft again, it will do so. I tried to enter the Army in 1971 but I was overweight. I would not wait to be drafted, I would volunteer. I tried, but didn't make the cut. I tried to enlist when others were running to Canada to hide out. Oh, I am a woman by the way.

No, and No.
The Military doesn't want a draft. The draft caused problems durring the Vietnam war: gangs, drug running, etc. It took 10 years to rebuild morale after tossing out the bad apples.

I think that if the war lasts beyond 2016 there will be (I expect that the democrats will have 8 years in the White House, and then the political pendulum will go back to the right), and I will not go! I can't go because I am female, near-sighted, and gay, but even if they dropped all of those restrictions I would still refuse to engage in war.
