If you are talking about the PGA Tour (and, after, the Champions Tour), players receive credit for every cut they make. After a certain number of cuts made they are assured a retirement benefit, which they can take after age 55. Like any pension, it can increase if they take it later than that.
It can be a significant amount of money.

Pro golfers win tournaments, save money, invest and retire...the PGA may have some piss-ant retirement fund that you donate to while you're playing...but the retirement of a professional golfer is being made at the end of every tournament...just hope you're in the money.

they just stop golfing. they get a retirment plan or just live off the money they won. my grandfather was a professional golfer when he retired from the air force. then he stopped golfing
