My daughter is 8 and she is very much a tom boy. She still likes to look nice but she prefers to do athletics and hang out with the boys. She loves dinosaurs and anything artsy. I suggested for her party gifts like art supplies or books on dinosaurs and she was happier then I've ever seen her. All kids like flavored chap sticks as well so if your son insists on lip gloss why not compromise with chap sticks. You can get like a 5 or 10 pack of flavored ones for 10 bucks or less. They have these cool water color pencils out now that my daughter got and she loves them. No brushes needed. Or maybe a gift certificate to Toys R Us. She got those too, and really enjoyed going shopping for herself and choosing her own gifts. Good luck, hope that helped.

My 10-yr-old grandson bought his gal pal a gorgeous delicate sterling silver chain sporting her initial. Even if she's a tom boy, she's still a woman in the making, and a young man (or any man for that reason) can't go wrong with jewelry.
& it would be a good idea if he uses his allowance to pay for it or some of it so he can be proud of the part he played.
Aren't they so cute at this age!!

Is she into sports? the outdoors? animals? art? video games? Look at the mother's definition of tom boy. She may be more girly than you think and would like paints or a cool stuffed animal. I get called a tomboy all the time, even though I am very feminine, just because I enjoy camping.

Something that is either gender neutral - my friends 8 y.o. tom boy loves magnetix and they come in "girl" colors, but they aren't girlie.
I think the idea of something more traditionally "boy" but in "girl" colors will honor the fact she is a girl, but be something she likes.
Games are also good and can be either boy or girl.

a purse and lip gloss may be fine, but she may prefer a professional sketch pad and charcoal. ask your son what she likes first.

movie tickets or amusement park tickets so that her and your son and a chapparel can go to enhance their kid friendship! Plus you can spend more time with your son.
:) ( Only for the strong willed)
