I am a decent looking guy, but in the past 4-5 years I have gained about 50lbs. I am 5'10" and I used to weigh about 185 but I am now close to 250.

When I was in high school and college I did alot of dating and never had problems getting almost any girl to date me. Since I have gained weight, my dating life has pretty much been non-existent.

Everywhere I go, I hear women dump on guys for being shallow and caring so much about a girl's physical appearance, but from my personal experience and the situation I am in I would say they care as much if not more than guys do about the physical aspects of their mate.

What's the general consesis? Would you date a slightly over weight guy as long as he still took care of himself in every other aspect? or does shallow know no gender barriers?

Of course shallow knows no gender barriers! Guys and girls can both be totally image conscience. But there will always be people who look past the surface to the man/woman underneath. To me...even someone who at first may not have immediately attracted me...can become incredibly sexy to me after I get to know them. You putting on weight is a mixed blessing...it teaches humility to someone who perhaps has had it a bit to easy in the dating scene...and also....when you do meet the right woman...she will BE the right woman. Because you know she really cares for you..not just how you will look standing next to her.

Slightly overweight in a man is not a problem at all. Very overweight is a huge problem. Slightly overweight in a man can just mean that he ate a little too much and didn't quite exercise enough. That's not a big deal, and most people have been there at some point. And it's not a huge feat to correct it. But very overweight signals a life way out of balance and serious health problems.

It doesn't matter, my boyfriend has put on about 40 pds in the last 2 years, it hasn't changed my feelings for him. Its the person & the way they are that attracts you to them. You aren't looking in the right places
take care & good luck

I would date an over weight guy if he still cared about himself and is in style

YES. SIZE MATTERS!!!!! IF YOU ARE JUST GETTING INTO A RELATIONSHIP IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP YOUR SELF UP. BUT ONCE YOU CONNECT ON SOME LEVEL THEN IT DOESN'T MATTER TO MUCH. GOING TO THE GYM TOGETHER WOULD BE FUN AND IT WOULD GIVE HER AN EXCUSE TO TONE UP TOO.

THE MAN OF MY DREAMS IS MORE THAN A LITTLE OVER WEIGHT AND I JUST DON'T SEE A PROBLEM AT ALL . I CONNECTED WITH HIM ON EVERY OTHER LEVEL AND THAT IS GOOD STUFF. TO BAD HE DUMPED ME FOR A TALLER WOMAN.

I'm really sorry to say this, but yes, a guy's weight really does matter in a woman's eyes. Just do everything you can to eat healthy, and make sure you don't eat too much.

I'm no Girl but I can tell you this...It gets worse the older you get. Your metabolism shuts down when you reach 30. Start exercising now. It's very addictive.

I prefer a few pounds over rather then a few pounds under. But what about you? How do you feel about a girl with 50 extra pounds?

I actually like someone who can pick me up and stuff like that, as long as he's good to me, I have no big issues about his weight.

Umm... you should just excersise a little bit more. Big guys are fine but fat is, well, just, yucky. No offense at all.. just being honest.
