Get sufficient sleep, regular exercise, eat lots of veggies and fruit, along with some lean protein (fish, chicken, eggs, low fat dairy, lean red meat, etc.), drink plenty of fluid and take a multiple vitamin daily. Get a reputable brand, as they aren't all the same research has recently shown. And, if you start to feel a little sick, take Airborne, it's good stuff and really does help.
Getting a flu is a very wise move. Can't stop the cold or strep throat, but it sure can help keep the flu away.
In other words, just take care of yourself.
Good Luck, and stay Well!

Taking Echinacea does wonders and it is a natural herbal supplement. Usual dosage is 2-3 capsules 3 times a day for 2 weeks then stop taking it for 2 weeks then start back.
I found that if i load up for the first 3 days then cut back to 2 capsules twice a day for the remaining 11 days I can remain cold/flu free but the important thing to remember is to stop taking it after 2 weeks the resume after your 2 weeks off and just repeat because the body will build up a tolerance if you continue to take it with out a break.

Eat natural foods containing the enzymes your body needs to fight off bad bacteria.
Zinc, Euachinecea (SP?) Vitamin C are prime components in all these.
Know that taking VITAMINS is pointless unless you also EAT right, and by eating right, I mean dont be taking vitamins but eating fast food everyday, you defeat the purpose...
Zinc can be found with the Euachinecea in cough drops, or similar vitamin type pills at your local CVS or ECKERD.
Zinc Specifically is a fighter and immune trigger against the FLU

Take all kinds of vaccinations. You will get acquired immunity over several diseases such as diphtheria, hepatitis A & B, influenza, pertussis, streptococcus pneumoniae, polio and tetanus. Disorders in the immune system can cause disease. Immunodeficiency diseases occur when the immune system is less active than normal, resulting in recurring and life-threatening infections. In developed countries, obesity, alcoholism, and illegal drug abuse are common causes of poor immune function. However, malnutrition is the most common cause of immunodeficiency in developing countries. Diets lacking sufficient protein are associated with impaired cell-mediated immunity, complement activity, phagocyte function, IgA antibody concentrations, and cytokine production. Deficiency of single nutrients such as zinc; selenium; iron; copper; vitamins A, C, E, and B6; and folic acid (vitamin B9) also reduces immune responses.
Please see the web pages for more details on Immune system.

First if you're worried about the flu - get a flu shot (unless you're allergic).
Some other stay heathy tips are:
-Airborne (heard good reviews on that)
-Take a vitamin supplement (Vitamin C and Zinc) - you can even buy it in lozenge form (like cough drops).
-If you don't like vitamins - drink Orange juice (not just a cliche)
-Wash your hands (regularly)
-Take precautions around people who you KNOW are sick.
Good luck with staying healthy through the winter!

Good healthy balanced diet that provides daily vitamin and mineral needs - especially fruits and veg, if there's any dificiency take a vitamin supplement.
Regular exercise - nothing too extreme, 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise will suffice.
And keep clear of people who are already infected.

Drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest. Vitamins sometimes help also, since the body will only keep what it needs, you can just choose a good multi vitamin. Also, getting lots of exercise helps to keep you healthy.

Frequent handwashing has been shown to be the best way to avoid illnesses. If you're not near soap and water, carry a disinfecting hand gel with you, which is the next best thing.
