I'm not sure if the pain in my upper molar is caused by a tooth decay or wisdom teeth. When I chew anything, my teeth don't hurt at all. My furthest upper molar hurts once in a while, but the pain goes away. So... what do you guys think and what are some symptoms of tooth decay and wisdom teeth?

P.S. I'm going to the dentist next week

Of course, only your dentist can tell for sure where your pain is coming from. He'll take some x-rays and talk to you about it.

Most people describe the pain that comes with wisdom teeth as "pressure". It kinda makes that side of your mouth hurt.

The pain from decay is more likely to be felt in a specific area.

Best wishes!

Enamel (the external tissue of the tooth) is much more resistant to decay than dentin, located underneath and the pulp, colloquially called the nerve, which is inside the tooth. Therefore, there may be relatively little entrance to the cavity an a big hole inside. If the tooth has been decayed for a long time, the pulp (which is made of the nerve, beside others) may become dead, so there will be nothing inside the tooth to transmit and feel sensations like pain, hot, cold etc. In this case, as long as the tooth is not infected, you will not feel anything. However, tooth like that will become infected eventually, as decay is caused by some bacteria, which will gradually affect the whole tooth and start to spread outside. This is actually what is hurting when the dead teeth are becoming infected - the surrounded tissues. Another possibility is that decay has not affected the pulp (nerve) yet, therefore you are not experiencing toothache at the moment. However, regarding what you said about the size of the cavities, it seems rather unlikely.
