Gods Judgement has been passed and his work is done. We wait for it to be fulfilled and that is not going to be that much longer.

I too, have a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, and there are several theories that discuss the belief in God from a sociological standpoint.
Consider Carl Jung and his theory of a "collective conscience." It was his affirmation that because all societies have some type of deity, that some kind of God must exist.
I don't know of any particular theories that discuss the belief of "judgmental God" per say.

Billions of theories and logies will come and go but Judgement Day will come and no one can change it. Humans are not sent to earth for the purpose of picnic.
