you need to be upfront with her...tell her that you really like her as a friend and don't want to do anything to hurt your friendship, but you would like to kiss her and see where that leads (regarding more than a friends-feeling, not sex)...

You can ask a good friend of hers if she's seeing anyone first; that would help avoid any awkward surprises. Watch her friend's response carefully because the friend's body language because if the girl you like is feeling in any way (towards you) of interest to the friend or to you then the friend might give away a hint.
If you get a good vibe, then go tell that girl you like her and ask her out.

Be honest, and tell her you are interested in her romanticly, as more than a friend, but you don't want to cause any wierdness between the two of you. Don't let it go if you really think she is someone special, that there is real potential for a relationship. "Friends first" is always a good start. Make it clear you want to remain friends if the date doesn't go well.

Take her out someplace fun like Bowling or to play Pool. That's what friends do and you can be as flirty or conservative as you want. Dont take her to dinner or those usual "i plan on gettin in your pants later" type places

You want to date your friend? I'd travel carefully. If something were to occur and you guys ended up breaking up, your not only going to lose a friend, but a girlfriend. I'd say keep it casual, its too risky.
