I attend a catholic school and I'm in 8th grade right now, and my teacher mentioned that next week, we'll begin studying the Shroud of Turin. What is that? My friend said it caused some controversy back a few decades ago and that many people believed that it was Jesus's face was on it, but that's all she said, but I'm not too sure if that's correct. That's why I'm asking on here...lol

It is an incredibly good fake of the burial cloth of Jesus. It has both a front image and a rear image.

Problems with its authenticity
1- It carbon 14 dates to the middle ages. Right about the time or the first record of it.
2- The 2 images are slightly different sizes
3- The head is out of proportion to the body.
4- There are microscopic pictures of pigment.

It is still quite the work of art. It took computer imaging and modern technology to find the problems and it was considered authentic for over 500 years.

When a Jewish person died in Jesus time, they placed a small cloth over the face and wrapped the body in a burial cloth. The Shroud as they call it is the burial cloth that was left behind by Jesus when He was resurrected. The cloth was left with images of His face and body. There are several beliefs about the Shroud. Some don't believe it is the cloth that was wrapped around Jesus. Others believe that it is a hoax, while others believe that it is indeed the Shroud of Christ. There have been scientific tests made and the results of those tests still remain divided among the researchers also.

Well actually the first answer is kind of correct. They said who ever did this if someone actually did would have to have an extensive knowlege of the human anatomy .. to paint in reverse the muscles etc..they say it was a 14th century fake because the carbon dating revealed a 14th century date, but the box the shroud was in was overcome with heat and fumes from a fire in the church it was stored in about that time so they think that they fire contaminated the time ..so yes it could be true or not

It is supposed to be a cloth used to wrap Jesus' body in. It is a Class "A" relic. Relics are big business in the Catholic Church. When I was a kid the evil penguins (nuns) had us kissing what was supposed to have been St. Anthony's bones. It turned out that they were left over from a pig. The period of delusion was over for that hoax in the 1970's. The Shroud of Turin will also be busted when they develop enough technology. It is estimated that there enough splinters of the cross they used to crucify Jesus in existence to build a house.

If the nuns are as vicious and brutal as they were in my day, just agree with them and keep quiet. Free thought is an evil to Catholics.

The Catholic church does no longer comprehend stigmata as being any sort of act of God. One little-stated reality is: "...Jewish burial prepare utilized—and the Gospel of John particularly describes for Jesus—dissimilar burial wrappings with a separate textile over the face." The bible says that small napkins have been used to disguise Jesus, no longer a vast piece of cloth. in case you believe interior the bible, the shroud must be a faux because of the fact it conflicts with the observe of God. It's supposedly the buriel shroud of Jesus. It was carbon dated to the 1200s (I think?) many years back, which correspond nicely to the first time it showed up in documents - and the time when people were faking a lot of religious relics for money. There's no way it's old enough to be real. I hope your teacher remembers to mention that part.

Some say it was the burial shroud containing the facial image of Christ. However, no one knows whose face is on it. True Christians would rather deal with the teachings of Jesus instead of putting their faith in a piece of cloth.
