My husband and I are organising the children's activities for a family camp / retreat over a weekend. We need about 4-5 hours of activities. It is just at the end of summer. We will have about 30 kids from 4-10 years old. We have done this before and done Cowboys & Indians, Wizard of Oz, Pirates, Mini Olympics. We can't have water activities. Have good big room facilities for games, craft and art supplies, DVD player, TV etc and there should be a big outdoor play area. Thought some of you might have some good fresh ideas, themes, games, crafts, etc.

I would say- Working Together.

Seems to tie in well with the adult theme. You could have organized activities where kids who wouldn't normally play with each other work on an activity together.

I always liked pairing up kids that weren't the best of friends before they joined the camp, meeting, etc. This way they can learn something about each other and someone outside of their immediate circle of friends.

Activities- As a Girl Scout Leader, one of my first activities with the girls was to pair up with someone, trace a life-size version of them from a ream of paper I picked up from the newspaper, and them color them, decorate them in how they perceive the other child to be. Have the children conduct interviews to get to know some of the other children like a newspaper reporter.

I would suggest "Under the Sea". I did that for a girl guide camp once and it was wonderful!
Some of the activites we did were under the sea collages, played "go fish", made a fishing game with magnetic fish on a piece of blue construction paper and we made a "sea in a bag" (which is an omlette you make my taking to eggs, cracking them into a bag and adding different vegetables for "fish". You double bag it and clothes peg it to the side of a pot of water and boil it.), we also decorated the camp site with streamers and cut out sea animals to put up.

If you look online you can find a ton of different craft ideas with a sea theme, and we discusses important things about preserving sealife, etc.

If you are in the right area you can also cook a fish over the fire! Yum!

a pilgrim or pioneer theme would be good. The early pioneers would never have survived withouth the help of the native americans
