Angie, if they are under 6 weeks and she doesn't want to feed them. I would call the vet ASAP because they likely need to be bottle fed formula.

I just bought a four week old cocker puppy for Christmas because I fell in love with him. My mother bred cockers when I was little. Typically, you don't want to give a puppy away any earlier than six weeks ,preferably eight weeks. I probably should not have purchased this puppy so soon. He has exceptionally aggresive behavior already and I am extremely concerned about this. He has, (not just playfully) become agressive and actually broke the skin on my hand. This is not a good sign and I hope to break him of this. Emotional problems stemming from a puppy leaving the nest too early? I think this is not always the case but can definately be an increased risk with such young pups.
The mother will choose to wean her puppies when she feels like it. This can be as early as 3 weeks. Staying with the pack is not for feeding purposes but for security, emotional and social purposes.

Usually around the time the puppies get their first set of teeth the mom will start to wean them, that's around five weeks of age. Anything younger than that and the pups face starvation if the mom won't feed. You'll have to step in and bottle feed the pups if they are very young. If they're around five weeks, moisten some puppy chow with warm water until it's soft, drain the water and feed. Check and make sure the mom has milk. Healthy pups should be at least 8 weeks old before leaving the mom.

Keep the puppies and the mother together for a minimum of 6 weeks because not only is it good for the mother to have her pups for a while, but it teaches the puppies important skills such. If pups are taken away from the mother at a young age, then they wont know that bitting herts the other people and they will be a bitting dog.

Puppies can leave their mother at 6 weeks of age, but it is best all around for them to leave AFTER 8 weeks of age. Depending on the breed, the smaller breeds should wait closer to 12 weeks before leaving mom. They need to social time with their sibblings as well as mom teaching them doggie things. She will not want to feed them because she is ready for them to be weaned from her, this is the time where you start them on a kibble that has been soaked in warm water for a while (until turned to mush). Good luck and if you have any questions your vet is a great source to ask!

Puppies can be without their mothers at 6 weeks, but it is departmental to them to leave their littermates that early. They are pack animals and learn social skills by being with their siblings. I would NEVER adopt a dog that was younger then 12 weeks old and preferably closer to 14 weeks.
I know many small breed reputable breeders that wont sell a dog before 14 weeks.

Separating the litter from their mother is a completely different thing to splitting up the litter and sending the pups to their new homes.
The weaning process should start @ 28 days (4 weeks) and the litter should be separated from their mother @ 35 days (5 weeks). The litter should then remain together at least until they are 49 days of age (7 weeks) but not longer than 70 days of age (10 weeks)

A good rule of thumb is eight weeks but some people let them go at six which I think is too early and sometimes if they are not eating well they can go around 12 weeks, six is the absolute youngest, but only if they are eating well on their own. I would never let mine go before 8 weeks, no exceptions and depending on their size it may be 12 weeks.
