yes that works as well as any other DNA test but unfortunately
if no other family links have submitted DNA there is nothing to compare it to and then you have the cases of adoption and mistaken fathers yes that happened long ago also personally for me I think it's a waste of time and money and besides I would rather do my own research with paper trails it's more fun that way

I used FamilyTreeDNA too. What you get is a list of people who match your DNA and the possibility you are related 4, 8, 12, 16 . . . generations ago, as a percentage; 20% chance of a common ancestor within the last 4 generations, 30% in the last 8, and so forth. You don't get a CD telling you who your ancestors were, and if no one else with your ancestors has themselves tested, you won't get any matches. They use the Y chromosome, so the only matches you get are other males with your surname. It is for us hard-core genealogy fanatics. From the tone of your question, I suspect you would be disappointed.

It works and has been done millions of times. And it gaining popularity. This test will basically give your racial make-up and origins, not necessarily your direct relatives unless they have already submitted. Look at the sites below.

I think this test is to see if you are a descendant of Ghingas Khan.
