Like they say, it depends on the job. My husband is a crew chief and when he's in Iraq he works 12 hour shifts. When he's home he works 12 hour shifts. The only difference for him between Iraq and being home is that at home he gets SOME weekends off. In Iraq, there are NO days off.
The 9-5 job is really on for administrative personnel.

When you are at home, yes it's like a 9-5 job, 5 days a week. Especially when you have a combat arms job, there's not alot to do but refresher training and stuff like that. Not hard at all. Every now and then you'll go to the field for a few days, but that's fun anyway.

Depends. When my husband was in the 82nd, he'd have staff duty (24 hour shifts- and they were pretty frequent). Plus he'd be in the field every other month - and most of one summer. The work hours varied depending on what was going on.
When he moved to the Special Ops side, they never went to the field, staff duty was only once in a blue moon. The work hours were pretty much 8-5 (not including PT in the morning).
Where we are now, the hours are again, 8-5. Only times he works late are very infrequent. No field time, no staff duty.

Varies according to MOS (job) and where you are needed. The military is 7-24-365 days a year.....
Sometimes you could be in the field for a week or two at a time...

It just depends on your MOS and your unit. When I was on active duty I worked Supply, had 5 day work weeks 8-5 (PT at 6am-7am, 3 days a week), except pulling duty about once a month on weekends (12hour Shift on that).

depends on your unit. usually you'll work about 10 and a half hours a day in garrison, typically 5 days a week. Used to be you'd go home when you were done, but those days are long gone.

like they said depends on MOS, but with me i work from 0530-1630 on weekdays (sometimes later depending on if were gearing up for a field rotation) we goto the field roughly every 3 months for a week every 6 months for a 30+ day rotation. and we get weekends (most times)
