This is just the way the church does in order to control people's mind and enslave them to this belief. So that people will do what they want them to do. The church takes over people's self sovereignity- making people rely on them to bring their salvation. They would claim that only they can connected to God and you have to go through them in order to connect to God. They are constantly taking away people's power and brainwashing them. That's why many people become fanatics and can't think for themselves.

Luke 17:10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.
Luke 18:10-14 Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: God, I thank you that I am not like other men, robbers, evildoers, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.
But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, God, have mercy on me, a sinner. I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God.

We have a good side, which is the image of the Creator. But we have inherited a bad side that wars against our good side. Because of it we have invited death into our lives, without even trying, sometimes unknowingly. God gave the Jewsih people the law to live by to keep the dark side at bay. But this was a shadow of things to come. The fulfillment of His plan was to give us something within. Now we could live by it and conquer the death that we inherit. But too many people prefer to reject it. That is why their life is full of dark things, disease and death. It requires a certain attitude and sincerity to listen and follow what is really true and good within us to be a genuinely good person.

If you convince someone they are bad, you can more easily talk them into believing they need you (the church, rigid theology) to be good. Guilt is a powerful tool.
In addition, while Jesus clearly showed compassion to all (even tax collectors!), it is in our human nature to often see the shortcomings of others more than the good.
As a Christian myself, I find that the Christian message is that God demands that we commit ourselves to a life of compassion and moral behavior. And yet, God loves us no matter what.
If God loves us, despite our mistakes, and sees the good in us, shouldn't we try to do the same?

While it's true that most are generally good none come close to being Holy.
I'm a Christian preacher and I admit that I fail miserably, at times, in my walk with Christ.
We are all unworthy and must rely on HIS grace and mercy.

You said it. If we were all bad and unworthy then the world would really be a shitty place. We are flawed, because we are human, but not bad and unworthy. People who say that are religious, not spiritual.

Most people have good and bad in them and then there are some that are pure evil.

I agree, I believe people are usually good. Some people feel they need to press their way onto other people. Just be yourself.

They enjoy mocking and tearing down Christianity because they hate it and/or God himself.
