I had thyroid cancer 2 years ago. I had a total thyroidectomy in May of 2005. I will need to be checked for cancer and take my thyroid meds for the rest of my life. I am almost 40 now and was 38 when this happened.

In your ultrasound, if you had any tumors, they should have seen them, so it doesn't sound like you have any cancer.

Fortunately, they know alot more about thyroid disease now than they used to.
Hang in there. You will be OK.

P.S. Hyper is not as easy to treat as hypo, but its still not "difficult" per se-- it just requires more fine tuning with meds and more blood work. If its so hyper it won't calm down, they will take it out (fairly easy surgery on the patient's part actually) and you will take thyroid replacement.

P.P.S. Sorry, I misread that you do have cysts. Yes, they can mean cancer but not ALWAYS. Mine did, but 97% do not. Keep in mind that most thyca is the most treatable kind of cancer there with with survival rate at 95%.
