But that is sometimes in history proved to be the only way to acquire peace? Yet isn't it more intelligent to have your right as a human being to defend yourselves, but to try and defuse the problems before they promote the violence. In reference to this we are chaste for saying we will defend ourselves. If you defend yourself with violence and you are non-violent why are you considered violent when there was no other choice? That is silly to me? I always try and be polite and courteous to others and appreciate what is given, and try to give back in return, but there are times, that is just not possible, like war, or home invasions, or rapes, or burglaries etc., Would you defend yourselves?

You can still desire peace and defend yourself with force. There is not necessarily a contradiction there...

Absolutely, I would defend myself, violently if necessary. Whether it's a right or not, how are you going to stop people from defending their selves? It's human instinct and it can't be squashed. I am not a violent person. But I won't go down without a fight. And just a thought. There is no peace on earth because human beings are not peaceful beings. Especially when they don't get their way. And one doesn't have to be violent to be non peaceful. How many people do you know who are truly at peace?

Yes, I believe in peace, but I will defend myself and even attack those that are endangering peace. Rusty S is right. Nobody will be able to take Americans' guns away now. We already have them, and you can bet there will be plenty of people willing to die first (personally, I'd just move to a country that allowed you to own guns).

Yes.
If all of us were peaceful and not willing to defend ourselves.
we would be overrun by all nations at once.
We have more guns in this country owned by private civilians tahn any other army in the world. This is a big reason we will never be invaded.

I would defend myself in a New York second. I also believe in the word of God when it is said "The meek shall inherit the earth." However, I'm not ready to downsize my own personal arsenal, waiting for that to happen.

Oh jeez, here comes Hilary and the Gun-Law Brigade.
I hear ye. Notice on the news that guns are never portrayed as tools that helped homeowners prevent further problems in burglaries.
Um, b, I was referring to the whole extremo-Liberal "Guns-R-Bad" mentality.
