I think the largest factor is that violent crimes happen mostly between two people that know one another. When the crime happens, I believe that the perpetrator convinces the victim that it was an accident, or not to report them (like an abusing spouse does to the victimized spouse) because they are sooooo sorry and it will never happen again. I also think that victims, in feeling victimized, feel like they brought it on themselves or they were the one to blame for everything starting in the first place.

I think it is easier for victims to report their property crimes because there is more a feeling of rage and distance in the victimized feelings than in a personal attack. The "fear" isn't as prevalent in a property crime as in a personal crime.

I hope that in some way I have explained things. . .

That depends entirely on the victim. Different people have different reasons for choosing to report or not report a specific crime. Embarrassment, guilt, disgust with the system, and other criminal involvement by the victim are all reasons someone may not report a crime...

Depends on the victim, the crime, and in some cases - who committed the act.

Like rape victims may not want to go into court and relive the incident.

And if the person who committed the crime, is a gang member and you reported them - you could have a bounty placed on your head by the gang.

Also, do you think the police will be able to catch the crook?
