It's good that your asking questions about this. Part of the pain is in not knowing what to expect. So I'll run through your list for you.

1. Very small, tiny little rubber rings that are stretchable.

2. When they are being placed, they get stretched out,
about the size of a piece of thick floss. Then it's slipped in between your molar teeth. When the spacer is released it goes back to it's normal size, just a little stretched out. So it really feels like you have a piece of chicken or something stuck in between your teeth.
3. No, they can't really be seen unless someone is looking hard or you open your mouth really big.

4. Absoultely you'll be able to play. Although the first day you may not want to if you have any discomfort. Some do, some don't have any pain. If you do, ask your Orthodontist about taking Advil or Motrin, they usually help with the discomfort throughout your Orthodontic treatment during placement and adjustments.

5. Different colors, we've had clear, blue, white. So it just depends on what they have at your office. After you get your braces, you'll be able to pick a variety of colors for your brackets!
That's when the fun part for you starts!

Hope I've answered your questions and if you have any others just ask away. I'm also going to send you some advice on what to expect when you get your braces on and how you can adjust. Hope it helps you! And good luck!

Having braces will hurt worse if your not prepared for it. Knowing what to expect is the best thing you can do in getting ready for them. So I'm going to send you this info a little early so you can be getting prepared for them. Read over it several times or print it out so you won't forget some of the tips. Good luck!

Congrats on your new braces! You are on a mission to obtaining a better smile not to mention having your teeth in perfect alignment! As for the pain, it's not uncommon for there to be a little pain because you have bands put on pushing teeth apart and strange wires and brackets all over the place. Your mouth is probably feeling pretty full right now. Do yourself a favor....don't push or rub on your lips, pushing against the brackets on your teeth can cause mouth ulcers and can be very painful. Use the wax the dentist gave you and eat soft foods today and tomorrow. Lots of ice cream, cold drinks or Popsicles! If your dentist prescribed Advil or Motrin for pain be sure to take it. Even today your teeth are on the move, but trust me, it does get easier and less painful after a few days. Every month you will be going back to see your dentist for adjustments. Sometimes it's a little uncomfortable for a day or so, but keep in mind how great your smile will be when it's all over! It will all be worth it in the long run. Some of my favorite patients are in ortho and it's always great to see their reactions when they finally get them off. It's usually one of hugs, kisses and Lots of looks in the mirror at their fantastic smile! Good luck! Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Oh gawd..i HATED my spacers!! Very irritating!
1. they're about the size of a tiny rubber band
2. its HURTS like a mof because the assistant wedges them in, that size of a spacer inbetween a TINY TINY space??? Not fun.
3. they were a darker color for my spacers and it looked like I had rot between my teeth'
4. You're mouth is gonna HURT afterward..I suggest you take some ibuprofen BEFORE going to the ortho...you not gonna be able to eat for a week...it sucks!

Have fun!!!!!

EDIT: oops! I guess I was a little too honest! but i guess it depends on the person.

1. They look like teeny tiny clear rubber bands
2. Does not hurt any more than flossing. You'll be sore after the first night when your teeth start spacing out, but you'll be fine! :)
3. You most likely won't have them anywhere other than where your brackets are going to go for your braces. Like in the back molars. So you can not see them
4. I played the flute with mine in!
5. They are clear

You'll love your smile when your braces are off and you will not stop looking in the mirror!

1. they are just small bands that they put inbetween your teeth
2. no, it doesnt hurt. you may feel a little bit of pain because your gums but it just feels like there's something stuck inbetween your teeth
3.you can see them when you open your mouth in the mirror and see small colored bands on top of your teeth but otherwise, no
4. you will talk and be able to do the same things you did before you got your spacers
5.my dentist just gave me blue just they usually let you pick. it doesnt really matter because you can barely see them and you only have to wear them for a little bit

SWEET & SIMPLE!
