There is no cure at this time. There are however many medications which can be used individually or in combination to slow the progress of the disease and improve the daily life of the person with Parkinson's. Unfortunately, they may lose their effect over time and need to be increased or altered. Physical and occupational thereapy can also be helpful.

Current treatments for Parkinson's disease are only able to minimize symptoms - levodopa/carbidopa (sinemet etc.) and other dopamine agonist medications increase the amount of dopamine in the brain and help the failing dopaminergic pathways to work.

Cure for parkinson's disease will involve regrowth of those nerve pathways which is not possible given current technology. However in theory, stem cells can be directed to regrow into nerve cells and possible regenerate the dopaminergic pathways that are not working in Parkinson's disease. This is currently our best hope for a Parkinson's cure.
