Answers I got earlier said they were probably birch. But these are big trees probably 50-60 feet high - so they are not birch. There are several on the right on I 66 between Centreville and Manassas, Va.

Sycamore tree bark looks different on different trees. Sometimes big pieces of bark peel off and leave a whiter looking part exposed. Just a thought.

Sycamore is sometimes called "American Plane Tree".

London Plane trees? The look a lot like sycamores.

I would say that it is an aspen tree - they grow in the area you live and resemble white birch trees, though they can grow to be bigger.

beech trees are also white bark
