To make a devout or earnest request to God.

Luke 11
1And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

2And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

3Give us day by day our daily bread.

4And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

I pray differently at different times. I pray when I drive, and walk. I pray hard about something, and sometimes I just have a conversation with my Lord. At times I pray with my eyes closed (keeps distraction away) but not when I'm walking/diving/riding. I have gotten on my knees and even lain prostrate. I pray privately, with a group, with one other person. As for 'preparations'...no. Actually, I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'preparations'. Do you mean do I do any ceremony before prayer like ceremonial cleansing? No. Someone has come to mind, even at work, and I took a moment to pray for that person. One day an old friend from my high school days was on my mind very strongly (haven't seen her since 1965) and I took a few minutes to talk to my Lord about her. I have prayed for someone and then sent a post card just saying, "I thought of you and prayed for you," with no signature.
I am a Christian, and a Baptist. I pray to our Lord Christ Jesus.

Well it all depends. Sometimes I get on my knees, sometimes I pray while driving along the road. My preparation is always to first ask for forgiveness of my sins, failures, shortcomings, and transgressions. And then I talk to God the same way that I do to my natural father.
I am Christian, and I pray to God in the name of Jesus.

Friend, He doesn't mind any preparations, He just want you to talk to Him with a pure heart. If you are not used to this, just lock yourself inside a room and start talking to Him as if there was another human being there with you. If you believe Him really, you'll feel He's listening to you. You can be on your knees if you like, but again I will say: He's looking at your heart. Don't be surprised though, if during your talk to Him, an irresistible need to be on your knees comes :)

I am a Christian.......Well to answer this you'd have to know the bible tells us we don't know how to pray. We usually pray out of our selfishness of our hearts (which is why we don't know how to pray). Jesus said that when we pray we are to pray in this manner: Our Father Which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom Come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and Glory Forever Amen ----Many recognise this as the Lord's prayer but if you think about what the Lord's saying here it makes sense to pray in this way because God's will is accomplished.

Prayer is simply communication with God by FAITH. Nothing else. Oh yes there are guide lines to follow to keep you out of trouble because when you approach a living God like we have it can get serious fast. We are to humble ourselves before God and submit ourselves before God and the Bible says if we do this we will be found of God and He will reward us openly.

I pray the Officium Divinum - or, the Daily Office. Matins, Lauds, Mass, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers and Compline. In Community when I can...on my own, in a chair at home if I am not with any brothers or sisters.

O my Lord, best of the givers of benediction, if You at all want to bestow a desirable benediction upon me, then I pray from Your Lordship that within the core of my heart there be no material desires.
O Lord of the universe, I do not desire material wealth, nor materialistic followers, nor beautiful wife. All I want, is unmotivated devotion to You.
With folded hands.

After this manner therfore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive out debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Yes I pray to my Gods and Goddesses, but not quite the way most people mean by the word. I never surrender my will to theirs or humble myself before them, because I see myself as their kin, not as inferior, submissive pawns. Nor do I beg and plead; and I would never bow down to any God. I commune with them and honor them while seeking their blessing through formal rites and informal meditation. I often toast the Gods, with either Mead or Beer (sometimes hard liquor depending on the God I'm toasting to). I'm an Ásatrúar.
