You need to put a hot oil treatment on your hair, It will work wonders!!
I don't know where you live, or if you have Wall-Mart stores there, but I went to WalMart and got a treatment called "HENNA 'n'PLACENTA...strengthens and repairs dry, brittle lifeless hair. Will not change hair color.
Shampoo and towel dry hair, apply complete packet, and massage into hair.Sit under warm hair dryer, or wrap in hot towel for 10 min., then rinse and style as usual.
Your hair will be so soft you'll love it!

Has your hair been damaged by chemicals, buy this I mean, do you color highlight, bleach? Or is your hair just weak? I know and understand you wanting a inexpensive fix for this problem, but with hair breaking there is not a conditioner that is going to completely stop it. I would suggest finding a salon that sells NEXUS products, and buy a small (it only comes in small) bottle of emergencee...Follow the directions, more does not mean better. put the proper amount on your hair, wrap in plastic wrap then warm towels. Emergencee with the heat created small silk like webs that will bond to your hair, to help reduce the amount of breakage. When your time is up on the Emergencee, rinse your hair.....it will be stiff feeling, so do not be worried, rinse and then use conditioner. If your hair is naturally dry on the ends then you could use what we tend to call a heavy conditioner...such as Pantene. If your hair tends to get oily, this will be to heavy for you, but you could just concentrate the pantene on the ends, and use something lighter at your scalp. Anything that you will buy from the Grocery store or drug store is going to be heavy.....The emergencee is expensive....here in NC it runs $20.00 a bottle, a treatment at a salon can range anywhere from $10.00 - $20.00.
Hope this helps. CHI also has a spray that helps to prevent breakage, I use this on my mother in law and it does help. Best of luck

Mix mayonnaise, warm olive oil and avocado (a soft one)
and leave it for the day, make sure to put a plastic bag on top of your head to keep the heat in. Do this treatment once or twice a week in the beginning and then once or twice a month. It may take 4 washings to get it all out, but you will be extremely happy,. Better then any expensive treatment. Stay away from husbands or boyfriends while you have this is in your hair!!!!

Define inexpensive? Under $2? Try Suave. Otherwise, try Dove or L'Oreal.
