We need to know whether or not it needs to be replaced.

The crack is around 6" long, but it extends through the thickness of the counter top around 1" thick.

Unless you can get it replaced for free,you could fix the granite,wheather is a crack or a fissure.just rub hot wax in the space and it will look fine.
Romans art dealers used this trick to mask defects in marble statues,so when they wanted to reassure a costumer they would guarantee a statue as "sin ceras"(without wax) hence the word sincere.

I had granite countertops installed in my 3 bathrooms last month. I would suggest you have the installer remove the granite and install a new piece. Granite is very expensive and the dealer is obligated to supply a flawless piece and I wouldn't accept a piece with a fissure nor a crack.

It seems to me that a fissure wouldn't reach an opposite edge. How big is it?
