get a crate as soon as possible and when he whines at night ignore him or else you will train him to keep whining until you give him attention, if he whines for over half an hour maybe he needs to go out, so wait for whining to stop in the next 15 mins if no then take him out. then start to gradually add time.

I think its best to keep the puppy near you for some weeks. Since you mentioned that you just got him, it will take him a while to adjust to the new surroundings. Puppies need that parental reassurance especially at a young age.
Make sure the puppy has a warm rug or blanket to compensate for the mother's body heat. Besides.. you will have to feed the puppy quite a number of times in a day. So it might be easier to get to him @ night if kept close.

One thing you dont want to do is everytime he cries at night is put him in the bed with you-----or that is where he will always want to be. It is gonna take him a few days to get used to you and everything around/near him. He is old enough to start potty training . so everytime he drinks and eats wait about 15 minutes then take him outside and stay with him until he goes. It may take 5 mins or it could take a hour-but stay outside with him. After he goes tell him how good he is . At night after he's been sleeping for a little bit he will wake up and cry--------sure sign of having to go outside. I have had puppies house broken in a matter of two weeks time, but you have to work with them constantly. It will get "old " fast as far as everytime you turn around you end up taking him out. But this is the only way it will learn. GOOD LUCK---dogs are great to have but they really are alot of work--and FUN

Get a nice big pet carrier,a nice cedar pillow, and a noisy, ticking, old wind up type clock. At bed time wind the clock and put it under a corner of the pillow, the ticking is like a heart beat and will keep the little one at ease, when it settles down. First thing in the morning, FIRST THING, take the puppy outside for potty training. Well, there's a lot more to training a puppy, but this will get you on the right track.---------Good luck,------PeeTee

It depends how much you want it to rely on you. My puppy is always where I am,happy and contented.I got her when she was 6 weeks old, she is now 3mos. old, a real joy to have If you don't want him with you all the time, you will have to keep him separated from you, yes tough love.My puppy is house broke, she will wake me if she has to make a extra trip outside at night, which I am glad to do. If I put her in the kennel she might not be able to wake me in time.Good luck with your training.

When I got my puppy I laid beside his cage for about 1 or 2 weeks and I took him out about every 3 or 4 hours but I would just sleep by his cage for about a week and then just see if he starts barking or anything and if he doesn't bark or any thing then just leave his cage in your room when you are sleeping BUT DO NOT LEAVE HIM OUT ALL NIGHT OR HE WILL START PEAING EVERYWHERE (trust me I've done it and he went everywhere and poop and pea was everywhere so don't do it!!!!!) I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU!!!

Puppies are like babies. They thrive on contact. He's probably feeling a lot of separation anxiety and missing his mother and littermates. Give him all the affection you can, and he will bond all the closer to you for it.

getting him a dog crate is a very good idea. what you can do is play a radio near him have it on soft music and turned down low it will let him think somebody is in the same room as him and comfort him. do not feed or water him right before you put him in the crate. also put him outside right before you put him in the crate.

Put a old sweatshirt or t-shirt, that you have worn but not washed, in his bed along with a stuffed animal. He misses his littermates and mom so he is clinging to you.

try kennel training him and when you put him in a crate put the clothes you wore that day lke one of your sweaters over the crate so he can still smell you and you dont have to be right there
