There is no independent verification of those claims of extreme ages. It also defies logic as nobody in recorded history has lives any more than 130. People today are healthier than any time in previous history. Two thousand years ago the average life span was in the low forties.
If a lack of verification was acceptable then contributions to the church of the flying spaghetti monster would be tax deductible. The exodus (non-miracle version) appears in other accounts but nowhere are claims of great age verified. Adam, Noah, Methuselah, and other folks weren't verified. If you want jaded history there are a number of religion based schools that will give you your favorite view. Even real history isn't 100% truthful. You see the history of man is a history of wars, the the winners get to write history their way.

The Bible was composed long before the current history books even thought about being written. Also, secular writers would have to acknowledge that God exists, and that is something they cannot do, if they did that they wouldn't be able to teach the "theory of evolution" as fact now would they? Also, they would have to come up with an explanation as to why they lived so long and because they have no real understanding of the Bible, they are hard pressed to do so.

A lot of things mentioned in the Bible cannot be proven by scientific means and Christianity and Judism are not the oldest religions so there is no certainty they are correct.
However, some things in the Bible have been proven to be true. For example, at one point in history, Egyptian slaves were no longer given straw to add to the bricks they made. This refers to the Pharoah's punishment to the Hebrews after God through Moses delivered the first plague onto Egypt.

The bible is a religious text, comprised primarily of myth and legend with a sprinkling of historical fact here aand there...much like the Book of Mormon, the Quran or the book of Scientology. There is not a shred of evidence that anyone lived 600 years; that's a matter of belief, not subject to proof. It may (or may not) be a guide to right living, but a history book it's not.

1. At least here in the USA presently; many are afraid of being sued if they mention anything religious.
2. Most 'history books' currently do not list stuff like oldest people, very little (if any) about the facts from creation-Noah. The speculation about the theory of evolution (not the factual part of evolution itself) is pushed, but in 'science bookks not history books.

A lot of history books have actually used the Bible as a source. The Bible continues to be a fountain of knowledge and be proven correct time after time!

Because a lot of the things in the bible are simply not true. The bible is mythology, not meant to be taken as literal fact.

The History books also taught us that Christopher Columbus was a good guy that discovered America. Read: Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong by James W. Loewen. Plus most of things in the Bible are things that most larders & rulers wanted kept hush-hush...Also alot of those events tooke place before written documenting...The stories were passed from generation to generation by word of mouth. Well hope that explains it! Good Luck, & keep Pursueing Truth & Wisdom!
