Obviously Jesus took the OT literally. He quoted from it frequently. Now, which part of the OT are you talking about? The Song of Solomon could be taken literally or not, just for example. The history in the OT can only be taken literally (it is backed up frequently by the history of other countries). As an aside, did you know that the Bible has never been proven false HISTORICALLY, ARCHAEOLOGICALLY, GEOGRAPHICALLY or SCIENTIFICALLY?
As far as 'WOULD HE TEACH...", I have no idea what Jesus would do in that case. You'd have to ask Him and if anyone would answer that question yes or no is either very arrogant or stupid.

I believe Jesus did take it literally to the extent of what we know. It's important to note though that Jesus was also a master of metaphor, most of His teachings were taught using metaphors or what's usually referred to as parables.
During the time of the Old Testament and the New Testament most things were passed on word-of-mouth and it was easier to teach things using stories than cold facts or laws. We all remember interesting stories better than raw facts.

Jesus spoke to human beings interior the context of their language, time and lifestyle. He did not come to describe the medical origins of existence on planet earth or to savings the myths and non secular heritage of first century human beings living in Palestine both. Jesus used their understanding to steer them to a clearer or deeper understanding of the regulation and the Prophets. He meets human beings the position they're, and leads them right into a sparkling position. there have been distinct thoughts to interpret Scripture in Jesus' day and that i'm able to't remember Jesus extremely endorsing any particular communities standpoint. He got here to shed new mild on previous passages, and his perspectives of the Mosaic regulation were unorthodox yet no longer stunning interior the first century. through the way, countless the gospel would were written 30 years after Jesus walked between the apostle, yet that become interior the existence of human beings that had seen and heard Jesus himself first hand, and many of their memories about him were passes round orally from the starting up, so their accuracy ought to no longer be discounted.

I am not so sure that Jesus even could read. There were the Torah scrolls--in Hebrew. (Aramaic was the spoken language of the day). But, the Torah is just the first 5 books of the Tanakh (the Christian OT). These were read by the Rabbis of the synagogue, and Jesus was not one of them.
I am sure he took the oral message that had been passed down from one to another literally. Then, oral messages tend to often differ from the written words-------on anything.

The OT is the story of the coming of Christ and all the Jewish nations laws. Their struggle to survive and their rejections and returning to God. The OT is not all about wonderful people, there are many rascal, murderers, adulterers, thieves and all around rotten people in it. But there is also many great truths and demonstrations of God's faithfulness. I think Jesus took the OT literally and it is not done in parables, such as in the NT. I think so because Jesus tells us that he came to fulfil the Law, which is the OT, not to do away with it.

His view is best seen if you understand that He is the author.
John 1:1-5
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
(from New International Version)
Ps 33:6
6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
KJV
Col 1:15-20
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
(from New International Version)

Yes, He took it literally where it was historical or prophetic. He would have taken the Song of Solomon as allegory. He is the One Who inspired the writing and He is the Word Incarnate.

He quoted it word for word back to the devil when He was tempted of the devil. He pointed many souls to the Old Testament Word of God. Remember it is still the word of God.
