There really isn't an "off-season". Things stay pretty busy year-round, depending on what activity it is. The winter is NOT the off-season. That is the most expensive time to fly there and the higher-end resorts and hotels will cost more then. As another person said, Hawai'i (and the Caribbean) is more attractive in the winter months because their weather is not that different from summer (a few degrees cooler) and folks from Japan and the US Mainland want to escape the cold weather. It is also the surfing season, when the waves are at their highest. Supply and demand drives up the price during Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukhah, New Year's, Spring Break. Summer is warmer than winter by a bit, but when the wind changes direction (we call it Kona Winds), it is a bit muggy and sticky. Normally the trade winds keep the air "fresher", but in Kona winds, it is almost still and/or humid. Can be unpleasant but nothing like the Southern US. Most people don't have air conditioning and are mostly comfortable.

The rainy season is only applicable to the windwardsides of the islands, which are dense green jungle on some of the islands, getting some of the highest rainfalls on Earth (Mt. Waialeale on Kauai). The leewardsides are basically desert and get very little rain. All on the same island. One of the many interesting things about these islands.

That should do it. Ask more if you think of something and I'll try to answer.

Aloha!

Summer time is definitely cheaper-- although fares fluctuate a lot during school vacations etc. MOST ridiculously expensive is Christmas time.
As far as rain goes, the weird thing in Hawaii is there really is no particular rainy season anymore. You can have beautiful sunny weather your whole vacation; some rain and some sun, or two whole weeks of rain--- any time of year. Not like CA or other places where you can pretty much count on the weather being somewhat predictable.

If your asking for the cheaper tickets, it runs in the Spring, and Summer. Realize that America comforts during the Spring and Summer. Hawaii is Spring and Summer yearly, but in the Winter the Surf is the best, and tourist surfers love the islands and pay outrageous prices to visit. Stay away from Hawaii in the Winter unless your a surfer or dislike the cold weather, its very expensive, maybe 3-4 times higher than the Spring/Summer price. I stayed in Hawaii September(2006) and payed only $870 for two weeks round airfare/hotel/car. I decided to stay another two weeks found a house for $150 for another 14 days, and extended my airfare...ENJOY, and A Hui Hou

Right around Christmas / New Years, the start of summer (when schools on the mainland get out) and the mainland's various spring vacation / ski weeks are the busiest times. My experience is September and October can offer bargains cause the kids are back in school and families are not taking vacations; the three weeks after Thanksgiving is slow cause folks either just came over or are waiting to come over for Christmas. May can split the winter / summer seasons.

Nov-DEC... but it depends on what you mean by off season? Waikiki is definately LESS crowded in the winter months. And I do not agree with some of the other responders... you can get very good travel deals in December! At least to and from California. I am from Cali and lived on Oahu for 3 years. I made that trip about 15 times. The cheapest time to go was Dec. (Of course that was booking from HI to LAX).

I wanna say summer b/c that's seems to be the cheapest time for airfares. You can go to the beach most places in the US during summer, but not winter like in HI. Winter seems the most expensive time of year to go b/c I think people want to get away from the cold/
