it means just that, you have an option to take money out while you pay for something. If your purchase is 20.00 and you want cash back in the amount of 20.00, then the total deducted from your bank will be 40.00

A debit card is safe even Terry Savage uses them and prefers using the card as a pin purchase. They key is to keep an eye on your account every day for debit cards and ever three days for credit cards. Report the lost fast. A pin purchase is the only way to get cash back from some merchants for debit cards with one new exception Discover debit you can get cash back with a signature purchase.
Some banks and merchants charge a pin purchase fee. Some banks charge a pin purchase fee after so many free pin transactions. Some banks do not ever charge a pin transaction fee-yet.
Banks pin transaction fees will not be on your receipt.

Means you should not have a debit card; should you have one for what ever reason---don't use it. It's like having a $20.00 bill, you buy something for $1.00, what's the change--$19.00 and should the clerk asks if you want extra---what do you say? Of course No, because it doesn't come from your checking or savings account. Extra money received using a debit card does. As I said you don't belong using a debit card for your own protection.

Essentially, it's a cash advance.
The store gives you money back (money above the cost of your purchase) and then charges your account for the purchase and the "cash back".
