Talk to him, he is your friend isn't he. If anything happens great, if not, then it wasn't meant to be.

Invite him out for a cup of coffee to "catch up" after all these years.

If a natural friendship is there, you will know because the awkwardness will pass quickly. Especially without your friends hanging around, which could actually be making it worse. That's a lot of pressure!

Then, if the coffee goes well, give the new, grown-up friendship some time to grow and develop (as opposed to the little kid friendship that you had in the past).

Just see what happens from there. But don't force it. I think that is why it feels so weird right now... cuz so many other people are trying to force it.

The problem is the awkwardness, because the situation is so awkward it makes it hard to make conversation.

But you have to do more than just say hi! You have to actually talk to each other to get over the awkwardness. Brush aside the family members who want to hook you two up. You guys have known each other forever. Looks like your going to have to make the first move and start up a conversation. He is still hurt from his other relationship so he will need time. You two can be friends for a while and take it from there.

Good luck!

Read your letter again---and again if you have to...do you see what I see???? You are in need of social grace and maturity. First of all, it doesn't matter what your relatives want---all families dream of a perfect match with someone they feel would be right for you....it's just wishful thinking on their part. Idle chit-chat...so smile and ignore it nicely. Why is it so difficult to be in an area where you see a person in the situation that you describe??? Do you think you or he should move away to rectify the situation??? Of course not!!! Learn to say HI and be friendly...he doesn't bite and you don't have to take it to any level more than that. Stop the drama and grow up---mingle and show him a little class---talk doesn't hurt. Good luck and learn to relax and be at ease.

Listen to him and see if you both have something in common. Boys usually are unoriginal so you should be able to get a "hook" on him pretty quickly! You should not do any move on him otherwise you will be seen as needy and desperate and the way you have written this email, it looks like you really like him! (not that it is a bad thing!) It is best to attract his attention by dressing up stylish, new haircut, new friends, interesting hobby etc ... and to wait for him to realise "I wanna be with this girl" irrespective of grandparents, same friends, previous bad relationship - all pretty lame excuses if true love exists!

Just Be Yourself...Give Him Space. Comfort Him. Be Close With Him. And When You're Close He'll Notice You're A Good Friend And He Might Have A Crush On You. He's Might Not Really About Not Having Another Relationship. =]

Well, if you've had this relationship for so long; you should be there as a friend. The pain of a break-up isn't forever. Let it take it's course. I know you have feelings for him, but if you let him know you're the fun friend to hang out with...things may turn in your favor after he's over the other girl.

Hang out...and girl have some hot and spicy sex too. Screw what both your parents and grandparents say...Its your life not theirs...they want to manage yours the way they couldnt when they were growing up.

Live life and Love it...

Wow. Lay some groundwork, girl. Be his friend, let him know he's attractive, be a buddy. Figure out what he misses about her, what he's looking for. Build trust and friendship.

When he sounds like he's getting over her, pounce.

There's always a first step in everything. And move on from there. All you need to do is to talk with him. Strike up a conversation or something.
