Don't worry about what you get in trouble for when you stand for God no matter what anyone says's or dose.
Jesus and all of his disciples were all persecuted.
Jesus is our king the world hated him and he said if we follow him the world will hate us too and when the world hates you that is a sine Jesus lives in you,Take joy in that!
Refuse and rebuke anyone who comes against you when you take a stand for God. God will bless you for that no matter what the world dose. In Christ we are not of this world.

I am a High School Teacher (Geography) - I taught on this subject. I am also a Christian.
The asteroid account is true, and the teaching of it is correct and appropriate - if you do not think so then you are not dealing with facts.
I would not give a student a detention for disagreeing, per se, but if you argued or gave your Teacher a hard time about it - he or she may have had to deal with it.
Dinosaurs did not disappear to put human beings on Earth - where did you learn that? That is not in the Bible either.
Be careful not to dismiss things because you want them to match beliefs - especially when beliefs are insubstantiated. The Bible is acuurate enough historically that you do not have to do that - and it can make Christains look bad!
The asteroid happened 65 million years ago, was 6 miles wide and crashed into what is now Yucatan, Mexico - and caused temperatures of 500 degrees on Earth - that is why the Dinosaurs died out - a non-believer will point to that as fact and all they need to know.
Be sure you are informed - be compliant with your detention and grade - that will be a good witness. You may ask the teacher at some point to give you some credit.
God Bless.

No, it's not fair. You were not told to recite paleontological evidence that supports the theory of dinosaurs; rather, you were asked an opinion question, to which you responded honestly with your religious beliefs. You were put in detention for expressing your personal religious beliefs.
This is not tolerated by American law. Firstly, considering that America is not a national secularist nation, there is no law that says that one cannot freely express his or her religion in school, or anywhere else, for that matter. The First Amendment says that Congress cannot make a law establishing a religion or "prohibiting the free exercise thereof," meaning that anyone can freely express religious beliefs in a public setting. Keep in mind that this is the Bill of Rights that James Madison, a major drafter of the Constitution, wrote because the loose constructionists were concerned that the government could take away the rights of the people.
Secondly, even the Supreme Court has defended this. In cases in which a person has been prohibited frome expressing his or her religious beliefs, the Supreme Court has ruled that students don't "check their rights at the door" of a school; that is, they still have the same rights they'd normally have in the public.
It is very unfair because it shows an attempt to restrict the free expression of religious beliefs in school. If they had told you to show the evidence supporting the idea that a meteor struck Earth, it would have been different. They asked your opinion, though, which meant that you could express it. I suggest you tell your parents and do something about it. This injustice is in no way supported by American law.

Students don't get to grade their own answers. Tests are to show that you at least were listening to the lessons. And even most religions don't hold the opinion that God put dinosaurs on earth then took them away to put in humans - so you not only seemed not to listen, you put down an answer that no-one with any credibility would support.
Fair? Being fair is applying the rules without favor. You knew the rules and didn't obey them. You're the one acting unfairly, not the teachers.
And if, as some here want to believe, you are saying the question just asked for your opinion, you probably didn't understand the question, as the results clearly indicate you were expected to write what you learned in class, not what you learned in some holy roller church service. But I suspect you understood the question and just weren't going to give an answer that didn't fit in with the state of your ignorance.

If that's what you were asked, whether or not you believe that an asteroid hit Earth and caused the extinction of dinosaurs, and you said no, you deserve a grade for answering honestly.
If they wanted a scientific response, they should have asked, "What are some scientific theories regarding the extinction of dinosaurs from Earth?" Take this to your parents. The question was asked and answered, whether your teacher liked the answer or not. Although I disagree with the substance of your response, it was technically correct.
You shouldn't have been given detention either. You were asked for your opinion - why is your teacher asking questions like this?

I have never heard such bunkum theory as that one - dinosaurs paving the way for man and then losing their reproductive ability.
Out of curiousity can I ask what church is teaching this crazy theory???
The Geography teacher was right.
The dinosaurs died out after the asteroid hit. There is plenty of geological evidence for that.
Regarding the original question - you should have kept your religious beliefs to yourself, written only whatever the teacher taught you in class - whether or not you believed it.
That is WHY you are in school. To be taught how to be sheep and follow orders - not to form your own opinions and spout them whenever you like.
Forming your own opinons happens after you turn 18.

I don't think the detention was fair. no. I can understand you getting a zero on the paper, because I'm guessing this was a SCIENCE class. If I tried to write a paper for a science class that explained the origins of the universe via Greek mythology, I'd get a 0, and rightly so, for haven't completely failed to utilize any scientific understanding or knowledge.

I heard that thoery. It doesn't make sense to me. I believe that the dinosaurs were created to clear the earth (which was untamed) for the preparation of Man. They were like living heavy equipment "machines" clearing the landscape and spreading their waste as fertilizer. Once that was accomplished, the Creator took away their reproductive abilities and they simply died out. Now the Earth was prepared for the arrival of Man(and Woman). I agree it was not fair that you got detention and a zero. Teachers especially should be open minded enough to consider alternatives. Not a very good example for students.

Actually, I don't think it's fair. What would be fair is if, instead of sending you to detention and giving you a 0, the teacher sat down with you and your paper and showed you the errors in it, as well as explaining what the scientific method is and why what you said is absolutely unscientific. After that, he or she should have given you another chance to write the paper. That's what teaching is. What he or she did was lazy and reactionary.

Fair enough, the question is clearly a scientific one as to whether you believe the dinosaurs were wiped out by an asteroid, an ice age, build up of SO3 or gamma ray burst etc. The question doesn't just wnat you to write bull ideas, you need to actually back your ideas up with evidence (e.g. I could say I agree with the statement because the gulf of mexico shows characteristics relating it to an asteroid impact 65million years ago).
If you don't want to believe in science, thats fair enough, but don't expect to get a good grade in it.

In a science class you are expected to give a scientific answer. If that is exactly what you said, it's not just a poor answer, but a poorly-written paper overall. You sound like what you are - a teenager who has decided to be a wiseass.
I (a teacher) would have given you a poor grade, but probably not a detention. Detentions are for behavioral problems. I suspect there is more to the story that what you're saying.
