She's breathing a little fast and not eating much. Just started yesterday. Is there anything I can do to help her? I don't want to take her to the vet. Last time I took my conure to the vet when he was sick he got so stressed he died.

ornacyclin is a petsmart-petco type brand of avian antiobiotic that i would get; i would also move her to a smaller, warmer, more humid cage until she perks up; i hope she feels better soon!!

I don't think "I don't want to take her to the vet" is going to cut it, because having her show symptoms now is pretty serious. One bad experience doesn't mean it'll happen again, and it's quite possible your conure was already very ill before going to the vet. Birds should be used to regular vet visits, as they should be taken at least annually.

Please do not buy random medications and add them to food or water, because you really do not know what you are medicating. Only an experienced avian vet can prescribe the proper medications for your bird, and adding to water only increases bacteria growth.

There's nothing you can do but take her to the vet, even if only for closure. Besides, if this doesn't turn out to be an emergency, both you and the bird will be prepared to make another vet trip she won't get as stressed out over if an emergency does come up later.

Since birds are prey in nature they can mask an illness until they are VERY sick. They don't want the predators to know they are weak. Your poor conure was probably so sick that nothing could be done.

Find a good avian vet in your area (easier said than done, I know) and get that bird in for some help.

Good luck.

I feel your pain but your bird could have a respiratory infection. I would take him or her to the vet. Birds mask their illnesses so by the time you see it it is bad. Clean and sanitize his cage. and feed him baby bird food or Gerber baby food 1st stages fruits and veggies. I have 5 birds 2 conures, 2 green cheeks, and one Amazon. Make sure he isn't near any drafts hot or cold. He could have asthma. You have no way of knowing without a vet check. One of my birds wheezes but he never does it at the vet. Try another vet call around. Your conure could have had an illness that was still present in your home and it has been very cold lately

as long as your cockateil has those 3 companions it particularly is going to be fantastic. I had a lovebird who became on my own as quickly as I went to college so i've got been given it 2 greater lovebirds so it would not be lonely. positioned your cockateils cage next on your parakeets cage so as that they are able to have interplay and chirp to a minimum of one yet another.

Birds hide their illness until they are REALLY sick. You probably noticed your conure's illness too late. That unfortunately happens to the best of us.

Your little one needs to see a vet ASAP. Do not try to give her any meds that you can purchase over the counter. These normally don't work.

Have you looked for mites? That would be the first step.

Second, is your bird near a draft of any kind? If so, move her.

Third, go to a large pet type store and they make a cocktiel type antibiotic that goes in the water. Keep her warm and comfortable, reassured and keep her drinking (with the antibiotic!)

If you live where it is cold... be sure your bird is not near a draft. Cold will make them very sick if they are run down. Also if you haven't had it a while make sure it's eating good by checking it's seed. You can buy antibiotics at most pet stores to add to thier water.

I'm sorry about your last bird...
I know that must have been awful.
But, maybe he was going to dye anyway even if he was at home.

I really think you should take him to a vet...

There is a medication you can put in her water for upper respiratory colds....do it right away (sorry, can't remember name of product). You can find it in your local pet stores. Do not delay!!
