Allergic to hamsters?

I am considering getting a hamster, but my dad is allergic to dogs, cats, horses, etc. Is he liable to allergies to hamsters? What do these allergies entail? (i.e., symptoms)

Everything from sinusitis to headaches. Puffy eyes and swelling skin. Best way to test if he will have any problems is to take a clean towel and use it to rub down the hammie... this will transfer dander [the undercoat which usually sets off allergies] to the towel and you can expose him to a small amount to see if he will have reactions...
