The little "bracelet" is the birds band and would not tell you the sex anyway. If you look at the cere, the part of the beak where the nose holes are, if it has a bluish tint to it then it is a boy, if it is sort of pink or like fingernail colored it is a female. Problem is, that this does not always work in every different type of budgie. The only other ways to tell are if when it gets "mature" and lays eggs, then it is female, or take it to the vet and get it sexed. The sexing at the vet is the ony sure way to know.
The only real reason to need to know would be to breed him/her and that isn't a good idea unless you are a experienced bird breeder. It is nice to know so that you know if the name you have chosen fits, but the bird doesn't really care if it is a girl bird named bob or something. They really don't care as long as they are loved and well cared for.

Hi there. The bracelet usually has numbers on it to track down the breeder. As the bird ages the cere( the area where the breathing holes are) will change color at about 1 year of age. Brown or pale colours indicate females and different intensities of blue are generally males. Have a great year and give it more time.

You can tell if your budgie is male or female by the color of it's cere. This is the soft, waxy tissue above their beak around their nostrils. If it's male it will be blue and if it's female it could be whitish, tan or even brown. This is once it is an adult, so if it is still a baby it could possibly change a bit, but if you say it looks mainly white and there is no hint of blue it is probably a girl. Otherwise it would be more baby blue and darken as he matures if it was a boy. The cere of course does not include the beak/bill.

The cere (located above the beak right at the top) is blue in males, white or brown in females. When a females is ready to breed, her cere will turn brown. These colors will be noticed when the bird is about 3 to 4 months old.

don't go by the color of it's feathers; if the cere is white (the part right above the beak) then that means it is changing from fledgling to junior-adult; you should be able to tell what sex the bird is shortly; usually around 4 months of age or so or shortly after their first molt. I had a budgie that had a red cere; assumed it would lighten up and turn brownish... well no it turned blue! (i was trying to get a breeding pair). but if its blue (whether light or dark blue its a boy and tan or brown cere is female. good luck.

A white or tan cere(the area above the beak where the nostrils are) indicates a female--a blue or purple/pinkish cere will be a male. The males will also sing/chatter more than the females and also the males bite less than the females.

Male has blue cere and female whitish brown cere. Not all varieties can be distinguished using this method. The cere is the "lumpy" bulge at the top of the beak.

If your parakeet is very young it can be hard to tell.. If the 'nose' is white it's most likely female. If your parakeet has a brown crest.. (area above nostrils) its a female. If it get's blue or has a hint of blue there.. it is a male. if it's lavender as in- slighly blue.. you be pretty sure it's going to be blue. I'd say female.
