If you have been with that person for 6 years in a committed relationship, and you intend on marrying that person, or already married to that person and you are sure that person does not have any STDs then why WOULD you still be using protection, unless you are not ready for children?
Protection is just to help keep you from getting STDs and from getting pregnant. If you are not ready to have babies use some protection or a form of birth control.

Sex outside of marriage is big mistake. If you two are really in love, marry, and then enjoy each other without the worries of protected or unprotected intercourse.
