Porteadores is the name used to describe (in Latin America, mainly South) people that work in a private taxi or cab. They are called taxistas privados or porteadores.

Also, in Caribbean countries such as Puerto Rico, Porteadores are carries; ships, planes, boats, and in countries where mountain climbing, camping, biking and other "sports" are very popular (for tourists), porteadores are mules, horses, donkeys and sometimes people used to carry people's stuff.

Even though in Mexico (where I'm from) that word might not exist, in many countries it obviously does and in every country the meaning it's different.

According to the Royal Academy of Spanish Language dictionary, www.rae.es, it means the one who carries something from one place to the other. Those who said it means porter are right. (www.dictionary.com)
Hope it was useful.
