I wouldn't charge my brother rent...but if it was the other way around, I would have offered to pay rent in order to offset his expenses. Food etc... So why are your bloomers in such a knot?

It doesnt really mather if its normal here in the U.S. beucase it actually depends on your culture... You should both have the same culture since you are brothers right? So were you paying the bills or helping out with money somehow? If you werent helping with the money and only helped him move, well then yes you should pay rent... If you payed some of the bills and helped with monetary things well then all should be right and there wont be a problem... But remember it also depends on your culture where your from so if over there the cultural rules are different and people dont think like me well then nevermind my answer... since we all think differently... Good luck with this problem...

Nothing siblings are suppose to love each other and help each other out the only way an older brother should charge rent is if he is short on cash and has money problems and cant make the rent payments on his own. i would say $300-400 a month so for 20 days i would say $300.00

My brother moved in with me for a year and it was hard getting money out him, and he's a grown man. I'm glad he moved out. he paid about $800.00 dollars the whole year. Now my 24 yr.old nephew moved in about 2 years ago. I rented him a room for $200.00 a month, now since November of 2006 he's been paying me $250.00 a month. I guess its been working out okay. We both take turns buying dinner a couple of nights a week. I'm his uncle, I have a 4 bedroom house, so it works out where we don't cramp each others styles. I would advise you to start charging him after only one month.

I would not charge him if he needed the help AND if he was helping around the house (with cleaning - inside and out, and contributing to the needs of the family in general). You may need his help one day! Unless you absolutely need the money, I would not ask him for any -- however, if he stayed for longer than 30 days, I might have a little talk with him about "helping contribute to the family bills".

One of my brothers lived with us for a year (a couple years ago) & wanted to pay rent, but we (my husband & I) wouldn't take it. BUT, he gave me money for groceries on a regular basis. He also did alot of work on our property...It worked out great for all involved. I wouldn't have felt right charging him "rent"...If I had needed extra money, we could have asked him to pay the difference in utilities.
It was great to have him here - my 2 sons got to know their uncle so much better during that year that they would have if he hadn't lived with us...
No matter how you feel about paying rent to your brother, you need to just grin & get over it - life is too short for worrying about stuff that's already happened!

i'm not living in the states, but i wouldn't charge my brother for rent if he stayed with me for 20 years i think it'd be very low & mean of me to do sth like that.
it's a matter of humanity, i think ppl should help & support each other or else the world will become a jungle.
good luck,& best wishes.

its called sharing expenses, maybe he needed the extra money to offset food and all. yes its normal if one wants to stay more than a few days to ask for some help with expenses.

Considering the circumstances you shouldn't have to pay rent for being there for 20 days. He should have allowed you enough time to find somewhere else to live.

It depends. Were you eating his food and stuff? Is he kinda short on cash? I would never charge my family rent unless it was for an unreasonable amount of time or they were costing me tons of money.
