The people who have the most relevant factual knowledge and, therefore, the ones in the best position to judge the 'need' to introduce a 'creator' into the equation of our existence, are our scientists. Even in the 1920's, only 30% of the world's top scientists considered "god' as a possible reality. That number has steadily declined to just 7% today. Sounds like the light is getting dimmer to me. Don't you think it a little odd that there is an inverse relationship between belief in god and advancing knowledge? If people weren't so desperate to hang onto their fantasies, they would have long ago accepted the obvious fact that their premise must be incorrect.

Isn't that the pot calling the kettle . . . Atheists and agnostics don't have a mission to get rid of any religion . . . unlike Christianity that has historically IMPOSED their beliefs on others. Jump off the boat with a bible in hand, Christianity is the only civil thing that must be forced upon the native Indians, the Incas, the Mayans . . . should I continue? If anyone is putting out lights, it's bigoted Christians thinking that is the only acceptable religion!

Considering that the vast majority of the west was at one time Christian, the number has shrunk somewhat. And if you took the numbers who went to church regularly as a percentage of population, attendance nowadays has shrunk to about 20% of those levels. If you were to further consider those agnostics who are afraid to 'come out', the number would be lower still.
But hey, the world is moving forward. As humans, we learn more and we throw off some of the dogma we inherited from our less aware forefathers.
Besides, I think it was the Christians who were keen on shoving red hot pokers up the butts of the non-believers, rather than the atheist trying to blow out one of those 'magic' candles of yours.
Oh, one last thing. Dark Ages or Renaissance. Which proved most positive for mankind? Hint: one was heavily dominated by religion and the other by creative arts and science.

Thank you teacher... for your lesson on the "epitome of arrogance". Atheists haven't tried to put out any "lights", they just believe differently, you perceive the beliefs as "attacks" through your own arrogance and sense of "self" (i.e. overblown ego) and then ... THEN turn around and come up with name-calling to boot. "... Is this not the epitome of stupidity?" Nope it's the epitome of people believing differently from you and if you can't handle that then you really need cultivate a calmer mind... see? It's not just all about you... the world doesn't revolve around you and I SURE AS HECK don't see "atheist stormtroopers" marching through town knocking on doors, putting a gun to your head trying to put out your lights... get real.

Thanks for the simplistic question of the day.
You proceed from a false assumption: A true atheist isn't going to try to wipe out religion, because there is no sense in fighting against the beliefs of true believers. It's a waste of time. What most of us object to is the injection of religion into every aspect of daily life, and having others' beliefs shoved in our faces day after day. An atheist believes what you believe is your business. Those atheists who yell publicly about religion are still fighting their own demons (or gods). I think you'll find the majority of us have little use for the screamers on either side. Although it is fun to tweak the noses of the self-righteous from time to time.

What is the problem with you people, in which you can't accept that others may have an opinion that varies from yours. We do not condemn you for your beliefs, as you do us, we just feel that the whole idea is rather crass. Stop trying to make youself feel better about your own stupidity, and get on with it.

atheists aren't trying to extinguish anything
its more like religion is trying to put out the light of other religions
which is futile and causes unnecessary consequences to occur

You're wrong there. It gets dimmer with every passing decade. Your religion is already obsolete, it's only a matter of time before it is nothing more than an embarrassing chapter in old history books.

The epitome of stupidity is sticking to strongly-held beliefs in the face of evidence that it probably isn't true. Over, and over, and over again.
