I don't know what nationality you are, but the same kind of thing happens all over the world, including the U.S.

You should have been with me the day a truck full of cigarettes sideswiped a freeway sign, and dumped the smokes for half a mile down the road. There wore more scavangers stopping to pick up the cartons than buzzards over a deer carcass.

No. It's not "looting" under the law--the term is "salvaging" and is perfectly legal. If something washes up on the shore, it's yours provided you report finding it. It's been that way for hundreds of years and nobody thought anything of it until the American media (in particular Fox News) decided to make a big deal out of it.

It depends....i don't think people realised that the goods belonged to regular people. Many assummed they were corporate goods, in which case they would have been justified in their looting. There is a saying 'finders, keepers, losers- weepers'
