Foods to avoid until your infant is at least a year old include cow's milk, citrus fruits and juices, and wheat and egg whites until he is two. Also, avoid giving peanuts (as smooth peanut butter), fish and shellfish until your child is at least three years old. Whole peanuts and tree nuts should be avoided until your child is four because of the choke hazard.

My doctor told me to wait until atleast age 1 before you give peanut butter. Peanuts are the most highly allergic food out there. I would try a small amount first and then wait a day or two and give him alittle more. Not only can peanut butter give them a rash around the mouth but the baby may also have stomach problems so i would wait a few days in between feedings of peanut butter. Good Luck oh and also ask around in your family and see if anyone has a history of allergens to food.

I introduced peanut butter to my daughter at 14 months. I felt it was safe mainly due to the fact that there is no history of food allergies in my family nor my husband's family. If there is a history then I would wait until he turns 3 or what the Dr may recommend.
By the way she LOVES it! I will make her a peanut butter sandwich and she will lick the peanut butter off the bread. It's a sticky mess and oh so fun to watch.

You should wait until at least 2 years old to give him peanut butter, because they are more likely to have an allergic reaction before then. If food allergies run in your family, then you should wait until 3 years old.

3 is about right, since peanut butter adheres to the roof of the mouth a child should have fairly developed swallowing reflex. Choking is probably the biggest reason why is it introduced to a child later rather than sooner. Nut allergies could be possible as well. Be careful.

Give peanut butter to him after he turns 3 just to be on the safe side.
Peanut butter: Peanuts are highly allergenic. Rather than risk a violent allergic reaction, wait until your child is at least 3 years old before introducing peanut butter. (If you or your mate has peanut allergies, definitely without a doubt wait until your child is at least 3.) Another reason to hold off on peanut butter is its sticky consistency, which can make it tough for a young child to swallow safely.

When we took our daughter for her one year check up, we talked with the ped about what foods she can have now. One of the foods that he brought up NOT to give her was peanuts (this includes peanut butter). There's no real rush for children to have peanuts at this age, or at all really. There are plenty of foods that you can give him for meals that don't include peanuts.
Good luck.

my dr. told me not to give my son peanut butter because possible allergies, she also told me not to give him honey because there is something in honey that babies cannot digest. And both were till the age of 1 yr. My son is now 1 and has had peanut butter on bread and loves it.
