The active ingredient in Tylenol is acetaminophen, which causes less stomach upset than aspirin and its derivatives, and is recommended for persons with stomach ulcers, coagulation problems, and for those that are allergic to aspirin. Ibuprofen {also available under the brand names of Motrin and Advil} is an aspirin derivative; it should be taken with food, and persons who are allergic to aspirin, have stomach ulcers or coagulation problems {hemophilia, low blood platelet count, hepatitis, have recently had or will soon have surgery, among others} should NOT take this medication. Both Tylenol and Ibuprofen are used for pain relief and to reduce fever; but you should consider your medical history {the conditions that I've already mentioned} before taking one or the other. In case of doubt, consult a doctor or pharmacist; any of them can give you further information.

Tylenol is a more general type of medicine.
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication. Essentially Ibuprofen reduces swelling, fevers, and helps with pain. Tylenol does the same thing but is much less effective other then reducing pain.

Tylenol contains Acetemenophin (sp)
Ibuprofen is a different medicine
They're both painkillers
A lot of medicines (such as DayQuill) warn you not to take them with Acetemenophin, so that includes Tylenol.

They are basically the same thing but acetaminophen doesn't reduce inflammation and Ibuprofen does.
